A Contemporary Guide To Chinese Astrology

If you read the news, ride the train, or find yourself anywhere with a bulletin board nearby, you will find your astrology report ready and waiting for you to read. Yes, and the astrologer wonders, is there anything else out there that I might find useful to my future? She learns then, that there is also the Zodiac from the eastern side to learn about and maybe even fall in love with. However, the Chinese Astrology is based on animals.

Some history on the Chinese Astrology

The Chinese zodiac also known as Shēngxiào has all these animal personalities to learn about and fall in love with as follows: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and pig. These are all based on the Chinese lunar calendar. According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, every 12 years, an animal is assigned to a year, which is different from the western zodiac, which we know to be based on the constellations. They are as follows:

Rat: 1984, 1996, 2008

This is not an exploitive, which, is colloquially known as rats! No, rats are better than most people think. Still, if you’re a rat, it probably isn’t very nice to hear that this is what you have been assigned… Not to worry, rats are creative, intelligent, honest, and sly creatures. They can also be greedy if not selfish in nature.

Ox: 1985, 1997, 2009

If you think strong and useful is an accurate way to describe the ox, you would be correct. Oxen are mighty pullers who work hard and keep their feet steadily on the ground, which means, unfortunately, that they are stubborn when they don’t feel a change is good for them. They may also be poor communicators which doesn’t help them much.

Tiger: 1986, 1998, 2010

This is a brave animal to be and fierce too, no doubt everyone knows how dangerous tigers are. Tiger people are strong competitors in the real world. They  are graced with the beauty of their charm and have what it takes to lead but are also quite self-indulged and easily irritated.

Rabbit: 1987, 1999, 2001

The rabbit is a popular animal in our human world. They are bouncy, intelligent, quick-witted, and fortuitous and prefer to solve problems with negation rather than with aggression. They also live by the rule, “Live long and prosper.” Rabbits can, unfortunately, also be too quiet and shallow in nature.

Dragon: 1988, 2000, 2012

If a mythological creature does not impress, what will? Those who claim the dragon as their own sign are in luck! The dragon is a powerful creature who is very lucky, fearless, and kind hearted. People with this personality are also unfortunately prone to conceit and have the tendency to be overly confident

Snake: 1989, 2001, 2013

A Slithering serpent and eve biting the apple is not all a snake should be remembered for. Snakes are also wise creatures that are bold, smart, and intelligent. On the negative side, snakes can be arrogant and self-centered people.

Horse: 1978, 1990, 2002

A wild, and roaming horse will likely conjure up images of a free being, spirited and full of life! These personality types are good with people, smart, and very persuasive. They also tend to be selfish and overly-confident, so those born under the horse sign need to watch themselves before they run into trouble.

Sheep: 1979, 1991, 2003

People usually think of sheeps as farm animals who are gentle and mild. We even count them before we fall asleep. People of this personality type are shy and determined but also short-sighted. They are imaginative and polite but can be slow to learn.

Monkey: 1980, 1992, 2004

Monkeys are famous in the animal kingdom for being very similar to us. These animals are often very smart and charming creatures who keep a magnetic sense of self about them. They are lucky, and very confident creatures who can succumb to their egotistical and restless nature at times. Sometimes, they can also be arrogant.

Rooster: 1981, 1993, 2005

Typically associated with being your morning wake up call, the rooster is more than just cock a doodle doo! It’s a beautiful, independent, and hardworking animal that deserves a lot of respect. The rooster is powerful and organized in nature. It is also an independent being. Unfortunately, people of this personality type also have a tendency towards arrogance and can blindly find admiration in others.

Dog: 1982, 1994, 2006

Everyone thinks of the dog as their favorite companion and best friend. We love our dogs, and we can’t wait to spend time with them. They are the sign of friendliness, loyalty, playfulness, and honesty. All good things, right? Not so much! On the one hand, they are also stubborn, and critical of others. In addition to this, they also tend to be cold.

Pig: 1983, 1995, 2007

Pigs are cute animals who, like the rats before them, are also the unfortunate bearers of negative stereotype. Rest assured, these stereotypes are easily tossed aside with a little work. Pigs are pigs! These personality types are happy, fun-loving, and very lucky and wealthy animals. For this reason, they are also thought to be self-indulgent and lazy animals.
