Some people discount the accuracy of the concept of horoscopes. Some individuals read theirs in the morning because they feel that it’s amusing. They’re not likely to put too much stock in what it says. A third group takes their horoscope reading very seriously. They’re the ones who will go about with their eyes peeled if their advice for the day warns of danger. You likely fit into one of these groups, and that alone reveals more about your personality than you might believe.
Can You Be Too Pragmatic?
You don’t need to know what your horoscope says to go about your day. If you never read yours, then you can still live your life, experiencing its ups and downs as they come to you. The people that do this are usually pragmatists. They don’t believe in psychics. They never go for tarot card readings, and you won’t catch them ever playing with Ouija boards.
If you’re one of these people, then there is nothing inherently wrong with that. The argument could be made, though, that these individuals lack imagination. It is useful to have your feet firmly rooted on the ground. However, it seems to be these people who sometimes experience an emotional crisis when something happens which dramatically changes their world view.
It’s Helpful to Be a Dreamer
By contrast, maybe you’re someone who goes for psychic readings sometimes or who’s an avid reader of your horoscope. If so, then it means that you believe in the existence or at least the possibility of an ethereal world. No one can know what happens to the essence of a person when they pass on. Many religions have theories, but no living person can know for sure. We don’t know if some part of our essence continues. We don’t know if there are other planes of existence that we are destined to visit.
If you’re getting along in life without believing in anything else but what you touch and see then that’s fine, but in some ways, it’s a dreary, uninspired existence. No individual should feel a compulsion to believe in anything. Still, the person who believes in nothing but the material world is one who is less likely to feel contentment. It’s not uncommon for these people to battle issues of depression or hopelessness.
This is not to imply that you need to believe in things like horoscopes or psychic readings if you want to be happy. Instead, it simply means that the person who is too grounded in the concrete aspect of reality might not feel fulfillment.
Strive for a Balance Between the Material Existence and the Existential One
Even the greatest thinkers and philosophers throughout history professed to believe in more than they could see. That might not necessarily have taken the form of some deity, or multiple deities in the case of polytheistic societies. They believed that there was more to life than they might be aware of through the senses. With the many marvels that are alive in our world today, this seems like a sure bet rather than a long shot.
The More We Learn Throughout Our Lives, the Less We Know
The essence of the human experience is never to know everything. The more of the “big questions” we answer, the broader our vistas of understanding become. At the same time, though, there is always going to be another “big question,” no matter how far science and technology advance.
The matter of whether you look at your horoscope in a newspaper or on a phone app in the morning may seem like a small one. In the grand scheme of things, it is. If you see that today is a lucky day for love and that gives you the courage to ask your crush out on a date, then you have willed your fortune into existence.
You don’t have to believe in anything in which you don’t want to, but sometimes it’s helpful to let a little magic into your life. Without it, life can be a joyless endeavor.
